Swagman RV Bumper Bike Rack Adaptor (2-Inch) Review

Swagman RV Bumper Bike Rack Adaptor (2-Inch)

PRO'S:
The Swagman RV Bumper Bike Rack Adaptor is very well made with heavy duty material. It is very easy to install and looks great.
CON's
The (4) four nuts fit very, very tight and appeared to damage the threads of the bolts as you turn the nuts to tighten. You wouldn't have to worry about them falling off. However... I was concerned about getting them off if/when I wanted to move or remove the Swagman Adaptor. So I purchased (4) four new flat washers and (4) four new lock washers and (8) eight new nuts. (It takes "Metric" nuts). After putting the four bolts through the receiver and down through the bottom plate... I place the flat washer first, then the lock washer, then the first "Metric" nut and tightened all four nuts. The second Metric" nut was then placed and tightend up against the first nut. This is called double nutting. It may sound like an over kill but it works without any worry of the Swagman receiver comming loose on it's own. However... it is very easy to remove the Swagman without any of the threads on the (4) four bolts being damaged.
Caution! This is NOT THE FAULT OF THE SWAGMAN ADAPTOR! My Outback RV bumper is made of steel and is a continuous weld the full length of the bottom of the square bumper. It is covered on the top and front with aluminum for looks. The bumper is welded to the RV steel frame in (2) two places about 18" in from the left and right ends of the bumper. Our first trip with the Swagman Adaptor in place and a bike rack attached with (2) two bikes on board was nearly a disaster. We drove about 375 miles on our first leg of the trip and when we stopped for the night... the bumper was nearly torn off the RV frame. The bumper... spare tire... and bike rack with (2) two bikes were at a 45 degree angle. The steel bumper was ripping off the RV frame. A few more miles down the road and all would have been lost and perhaps caused an accident for following traffic. For the next 1,600 miles we had to load and unload the bikes from inside the RV each time we stopped. I now have to have a shop weld the bumper back on to hold the spare tire and then purchase a full receiver hitch that will bolt directly to the sides of the RV frame and locate it under the existing RV bumper!

RV 4" Bolt Bumper Hitch Mount Receiver Adapter 3500lbs Review

RV 4 Bolt Bumper Hitch Mount Receiver Adapter 3500lbs

It's a good product, and does what it is supposed to. My only problem with it was that the holes for the brackets that hold it on the bumper were drilled incorrectly. Took me a while to drill them out a little bigger so that the brackets would fit through correctly. They only fit sideways and not how they are supposed to.

Swagman XC Cross-Country 2-Bike Hitch Mount Rack (2-Inch Receiver) Review

Swagman XC Cross-Country 2-Bike Hitch Mount Rack (2-Inch Receiver)
Average Reviews:

This rack is advertized as easy to put together out of the box, and easy to use once you are ready to to ride. Both of these statements are completely true. We have one man's and one woman's comfort bikes and the different length center main clamps of the rack are perfectly suited to these differences in bike design. The rack is very easy to insert and lock into our trailer hitch and the bikes are extremely easy to load requiring only a minimal lift and support to set and lock them into the rack. Definitely truth in advertising!

Swagman Locking Hitch Pin (2-Inch Receiver) Review

This Swagman lock is a generic hitchpin lock. It is not designed for the XTC Cross Country 2-bike Hitch Mounted Carrier. The XTC requires a threaded hitch pin lock made by Swagman.
