(More customer reviews)First off the description for this item is wrong. It is not a 6-way round metal car end connector. This item is a Valley 52260 10 Amp Circuit Protected taillight converter.
I have a 2003 Dodge Ram with trailer signal relays integral with the fuse box. They are not replaceable. When the left turn signal relay went out a few years back, I added another brand of taillight converter to my pickup. It worked great for about three years until a faulty brake controller shorted it out. I ordered the Valley 52260 controller as a replacement.
Wiring is very easy and straightforward with easy to read vehicle side and trailer side wire markings on the unit. Since I was replacing an existing controller, It only took about 30 minutes to install on my truck. However, there is a note on the back of the controller that says to mount the controller only in the interior of the vehicle. This is pretty much impossible for a truck without splicing in a longer length of wire from the controller to the taillights. Instead, I mounted the unit under my truck bed and above my spare tire in an area that seems to have never been wet. I found some installation instructions online before I purchased the controller and it didn't mention anything about the "internal only" mounting. This is the reason for the four stars instead of five.
The controller has been working properly for over a month now. I'm hoping that the circuit protection will prevent shorting out in case my new brake controller ever decides to go south.
