(More customer reviews)Did great for our long distance drives. Up to 7 hour drive. Freeway and mountain driving. It held up great and the swing away is definitely a plus when you want to get in the back of the truck and the bikes are in the way. I was leary the first time I swung it with a load of 3 bikes, but nothing happened, swung right back and locked back into place. I wish they made one to hold five bikes. We replace the short T screws that came with the rack with 4inch bolts and washers to fit all our bikes. Then we bungee all the bike tires together to minimize the tire movement and we are set. Never had to tighten the load during our drives yet.

He was informing me that my Bike rack had broken and one of my bikes was just before hitting the road. One of the arms that support the bikes had broken totally off and was laying in the middle of the intersection. I thinked him, placed the bike inside my RV and continued on my trip. I would have never have thought this would happen. So be told the support arms can and will brake off.

(More customer reviews)I tried a friend's very similar to this. Also bought a different type that uses the rubber straps for securing. I prefer these plates that screw down. Also, my friend's bolts are shorter, so with bikes with fat bars, you had to use an adapter. Still have to use adapter for one 24" bike, but the 26" bike has enough clearance between bars to slide the bottom plate through. Just wish it would swing down for easier access to liftgate.

Valley 81310 Class III Receiver Hitch Review

(More customer reviews)Box received fairly beat up with some minor scratches, nothing some touch up paint won't fix.
The real problem for me is that the entire assembly sticks out 3-4"+ past the bumper on my 05 Highlander. After doing more research, I've found there are other hitches that have a curved outer assembly that will limit the amount of the hitch that sticks out past the bumper. This one looks bad to me because of the design, even my kids thought it was excessive.
If you don't care about that, the holes lined up perfectly and it was easy to install. But for me it was a deal breaker and I will have to pay return shipping.

(More customer reviews)It came in a few days but i was shocked when i saw that it came with no packaging at all. It was just the hitch with the bag of bolts and washers taped onto it. Lucky it didn't get bent during delivery. The install took a few hours because i couldnt figure out how to take off the hangers for the mufflers. After that it took some time to fishwire the bolts and spacers through the holes. After bout 3 hours the hitch and muffler was installed. Im happy with the look it gave my car.

Saris Thelma 2 Bike Universal Hitch Rack - 4202 Review

(More customer reviews)I bought the Thelma 2 bike carrier last week (but not from Amazon) and took two bikes 650 miles and back over the weekend.
Pros: Very light and easy to use. Easy to assemble. Unlike carriers that strap the top tube, the wheels will not rotate into the vehicle or each other. Loading or unloading bikes is quick and easy.
Cons: The threaded hitch pin is good for keeping the carrier tight in the receiver with no motion, but a hassle to take off/put on, and does not lock. Saris sells a locking, threaded hitch pin separately. You could probably use a standard locking hitch pin, but that would allow the carrier to move a little in the receiver. Would be nice if the carrier had a hole or loop somewhere that a cable lock could attach to in order to secure the carrier to the receiver.
Now the dealbreaker. I assume that on a taller van or SUV, the vehicle would shield the bikes from the wind. But on a car, the bikes are exposed. I was very uncomfortable with the resulting motion of the bikes at highway speeds. I checked the straps and carrier several times and everything seemed to be fine, and I kept telling myself that this is what the carrier is designed for and it's probably normal. But after we got home, took the bikes off, and folded the front wheel holders down to stow them, I noticed that they had been bent backwards some, perhaps an inch at the ends, and no longer lined up with the rear wheel holders. I am taking this back to the bike shop where I got it and upgrading to the Saris Cycle On.
This carrier is probably great for around town use, or behind a van or SUV, but I would not recommend it for long trips on a car.

There are two other brands that install exactly the same way as this one turned out, but cheaper. I'll have to say that this is it a quality product and will install in about a half hour if you have the tools. If I could purchase again I would buy one of the other brand names for less. This is a Class 1 hitch and for me will only be utilized for a bike rack and other light weight applications.

(More customer reviews)used the amazon drop down menu to find a hitch for my civic hatch, this came up and so i ordered it. came in and i tried to install it onto the car.. it will NOT fit.. also the item pictured is different then the item received. if u look at where they want u to bolt it onto the car, you'll clearly see that one side wont clear the exhaust. i thought maybe it needs to be bolted onto the bumper reinforcement, but there are no holes in the reinforcement. the only hitch that will work is the "curt 11209" that will require u to drill your bumper reinforcement along with spare tire well.. but thats pretty much the only option if you want a hitch on your civic hatch

Curt Manufacturing 11384 Class I Receiver Review

(More customer reviews)The Curt Manufacturing Class 1 receiver (11384) I purchased was installed on my 2007 MazdaSpeed 3. This is my first time installing, owning, and using towing equipment, so I was unsure of the results. I use it for a hitch mounted bike rake that holds 4 bikes.
Install:
The install was simple and required the drilling of four (I think) holes in the rear bumper frame assembly. It was simple and done with a battery hand drill. Next, fishing the bolts through the end-caps of the bumpers to the newly drilled holes using a guidewire took patience and an ounce of luck. After the second one they seemed to go in rather quickly. Finally torque all nuts down to spec. Overall, it took about 45 minutes with no prior experience.
Fit:
The receiver was actually too small and had some gap between the bumper frame assembly and the outer flanges of the receiver. Some reviewers recommended hammering/bending it into shape (we were unable to do this). I kept torquing down the nuts evenly and bent the flanges into shape that way. Now it's snug, but in retrospect, I probably should've used some sort of spacer or pre-bent the flanges. The receiver box shows from behind the car but nothing else. Rear ground clearance has only been reduced by a 2-3 inches from that part.
Performance:
I've used the receiver with the aforementioned hitch mount bike rack many times. The way the receiver mounts allows a certain flexibility on the rack as the weight is kept about 2.5 feet from the mounting points. This allows the bikes and rack to bounce excessively with the slightest of bumps. I'm going to drill and bolt in two more bolts closer to the receiver mount to eliminate most of this bounce. It hasn't caused and problems yet (especially on a 2000 mile road trip with some scary highway bounce), but I want to be safe. This is why I'm giving this 4 stars: the bounce, and poor fit between the frame.
Overall, it's a fantastic receiver with a few niggles. I've owned it for several months and I would buy it again had I the choice. On a clean install, I would've like to have made the above mentioned changes as well.
